Objects derived from vintage Japanese textiles.

CLEVE studies and reinvents carefully selected vintage kimono and obi textiles, giving them a new life while preserving the source garment through documentation.

The works are released in small, tightly defined series ("Studies") developed from a limited group of source textiles, bringing them together through shared origin and internal logic.CLEVE develops small studies from carefully selected kimono and obi textiles, carrying the source garment forward through documentation, archive traceability, and material transformation.

First Study launches in May 2026

Textile art, preserved

Narrative textile example

Small figures, seasonal motifs, and finely painted detail are composed into a quiet textile story with a distinctly Japanese narrative tradition.

Crest textile example

Plant forms are reduced into a clear emblem and given presence through precise weaving and metallic detail, reflecting a distinctly Japanese art of formal order.

Silver woven textile example

Repeated bird forms and muted silver tones create depth through rhythm, restraint, and exacting workmanship, preserving a quieter Japanese sensibility.

Silver woven textile example

Painted color, soft gradation, and gold accents come together in a floral language where blossoms carry time, mood, and refinement in a distinctly Japanese way.

Studio

Based in Hamburg, CLEVE works with vintage Japanese textiles selected for material quality, structure, and visual depth. The aim is not reproduction, but to carry these garments into another form while keeping their origin legible.
